Die 29. Jahrestagung fand als internationale wissenschaftliche Konferenz vom 18. bis 20. Mai 2023 in Warschau statt. Wir kooperierten mit Prof. Dr. Michał Kopczyński von der Fakultät für Geschichtswissenschaften der Universität Warschau und dem International Network for the History of Hospitals (INHH).

Unter dem Titel „hospitals in times of crisis“ stehen im Mittelpunkt Hospital und Krankenhaus als mögliche Antworten auf individuelle und gesellschaftliche Krisen, wie etwa in Seuchenzeiten, als Institutionen, die sich in äußeren Krisenzeiten bewähren müssen, wie etwa im Krieg, sowie als komplexe Einrichtungen, die eigene, innere Krisen zu bewältigen haben.
Die Hospital- und Krankenhausgeschichte soll chronologisch und geographisch im weitesten Sinne und unter den verschiedensten Perspektiven diskutiert werden. Angesprochen sind neben der Kultur-, Sozial- und Medizingeschichte ausdrücklich auch wissenschafts-, stadt- und architekturhistorische Zugänge zum Thema. Insbesondere möchten wir Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler ansprechen, die in einem frühen Stadium ihrer Karriere den internationalen Austausch in einer freundlichen und fruchtbaren Atmosphäre suchen.

Die Konferenz wurde von der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Krankenhausgeschichte (DGKG), dem International Network for the History of Hospitals (INHH) und der Uniwersytet Warszwaski gemeinsam organisiert. Die Kooperation in dieser Konstellation ist ein Novum und ermöglichte es, sich der Geschichte des Krankenhauses in einem chronologisch und geographisch weiten Spektrum und mittels vielfältiger methodischer Ansätze zu nähern. Im Zentrum stand die Frage nach dem Krankenhaus in Krisenzeiten.
